Sherryl and Samantha will guide you through several lesson plans you can facilitate for your students so they will gain a better understanding of Indigenous music and culture. Their cross-cultural approach will help you make Indigenous music and culture more accessible for your students in your classroom. They will answer many of your questions about the correct protocols to follow when introducing this subject to your students and lead you to educationally rich resources you are welcome to use

LET'S DRUM TOGETHER - INTRODUCTION TO UNIQUE HAND DRUM OF SOUTH ASIA | Subash Giri
The Madal is a two-headed unique cylindrical traditional hand drum and national percussion instrument of Nepal. Due to its portability, small shape and size, and effortless ease of use, this hand drum is very popular and widely used across Nepal by diverse ethnic and caste groups in festival celebrations, life cycle rites, calendrical rites, and social gatherings. In the recent decades, this drum has drawn international interest and attention.
In this session, attendees will learn how to play this unique hand drum through active participation. They will learn to play different syllables of drum beats, including very commonly played rhythmic styles, in simple and easy steps. Together with an introduction to this drum, attendees will also gain pedagogical knowledge that can be applied and used with the Western drumming art form. Instructional material will be provided to all the attendees to assist with learning during the session, which they can also take back to their studios.
