At the MCA Awards Concert, outstanding music educators from across the province are recognized and celebrated in the company of their peers. Awards are presented by Alberta Band Association, Alberta Music Education Foundation, Choir Alberta, Alberta Kodály Association, And Alberta Registered Music Teachers' Association.

CONTINUUM OF MEN
Graduates of the Grande Prairie Boys’ Choir have come together to form a men’s choir called Continuum of Men, who rehearse weekly under the direction of Jeannie Vanwynsberghe Pernal. They regularly rehearse and perform wth boys from the choir who are going through their voice change to provide mentorship, vocal guidance and encouragement. Continuum of Men performs locally and many members are leaders or soloists in their own right. The choir is grateful to Michael Zaugg who has provided the choir with additional training and encouragement.

JEANNIE VANWYNSBERGHE PERNAL, conductor
Jeannie Vanwynsberghe Pernal has a music degree and Kodaly Certification from Brandon University. Elise Bradley and Trent Worthington have been her long-time mentors providing valuable training for over a decade. She is passionate about teaching boys to sing, producing excellent concerts for her small northern city and collaborating with musicians willing to make the trip up north! Jeannie and her husband have three grown children.

NEPALESE HERITAGE ENSEMBLE
Nepalese Heritage Ensemble is a group of Edmonton-based community musicians from the Nepalese Canadian community of Edmonton. The group primarily learn, perform, practice, and promote music of the Nepalese heritage and culture across Alberta and Canada. The ensemble was established in March 2021. The major aim of the ensemble is to contribute to strengthening, maintaining, continuing, and sustaining Nepalese heritage and culture through music. The ensemble is directed by Subash Giri.
The ensemble will be performing folk and traditional melodies from Nepal in Sarangi (bowed, short-necked string instrument), Bansuri (Bamboo Flute), and Madal (two-headed cylindrical hand drum).

Subash Giri - Drum
Subash Giri is a community-based multilingual and multi-instrumentalist musician. He has been engaged in his artistic practice for the past 15 years. From September 2016 to present, he has been residing in Edmonton and assisting in cultivating Edmonton’s flourishing diverse arts community through creating, performing, and sharing South Asian music and culture. Some of his remarkable performances include Kaleido Festival, Winspear Centre, Suicide Awareness concert, Mennonite Centre for Newcomers, International Music Week concert, World Music Festival, Inter-faith events, to name but a few. Subash is an Assistant of Indian Music Ensemble (IME) at the University of Alberta. He is also a PhD Candidate in Music at the Department of Music, University of Alberta. |
Bom Rana – Sarangi
Bom Rana is a multi-instrumentalist community musician of the Nepalese immigrant community of Edmonton. He plays Nepalese traditional instruments including the Sarangi––bowed, short-necked string instrument––the Madal––two-headed cylindrical hand drum––and the Bamboo Flute. He learned all these instruments orally from his village musicians in Nepal. |
Prem Shrestha – Flute
Prem Shrestha is a community musician of the Nepalese immigrant community of Edmonton. He plays the Nepalese traditional Bamboo Flute. He learned Flute orally during his childhood in Nepal. He has been actively performing Nepalese traditional music in several community events in Edmonton. |

Manny V. Y Su Esquina Latina is rich in Latin rhythms with musicians from all over Latin America. Esquina Latina is an Edmonton based band, and its unique instrumentation promises to have the crowd shaking their hips.
