While in her early twenties, Kathryn McIntosh joined the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra as Assistant Principal Trombone. Born in Montréal, she spent her formative years in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, where early experiences with piano lessons and choral singing ignited her enthusiasm for classical music. Kathryn is the artistic director of Edmonton's C'mon (Chamber music old & new) Festival, which began in 2013 to share the richness of classical music with a more diverse audience. Most recently, she co-produced a film documenting the experiences of several Alberta musicians in the early months of the Covid19 pandemic. Chamber premiered at the Edmonton International Film Festival in October 2021. Since 2017 Kathryn has been on the faculty of the University of Alberta as a sessional trombone instructor, and she also maintains a private teaching studio. She can be seen commuting around Edmonton year-round by bicycle - with a trombone on her back.
