Subash Giri is an international musician, scholar, teacher, and community-engaged researcher-activist. He is a Ph.D. candidate in ethnomusicology at the Department of Music, University of Alberta. He holds three Master’s Degrees: Hindustani Classical Voice (M MUS) and Sociology (MA) from the University of Nepal, and Music Management (M MUS MGMT) from the University of Agder, Norway.
Subash has more than 15 years of music teaching experience in private studios, universities, schools, and communities. Recently, he taught the Indian Music Ensemble (IME) at the Department of Music, University of Alberta as an Assistant Lecturer (May 2019-July 2021). Subash’s speciality and expertise is in South Asian music and culture, particularly that of India and Nepal. Along with teaching music, Subash is also active as a performer and researcher. He has performed extensively in numerous venues and concerts across Canada, Norway, and Nepal. His research articles have been published in several international journals. |
