At the MCA Awards Luncheon, outstanding music educators from across the province are recognized and celebrated in the company of their peers. Awards are presented by Alberta Band Association, Alberta Music Education Foundation, Choir Alberta, Alberta Kodály Association, And Alberta Registered Music Teachers' Association.
ROSTER OF AWARDS
ABA Award of Distinction (Alberta Band Association) | The Award of Distinction is an annual award presented to an ABA member who has gone above and beyond in consistently demonstrating and supporting the ideals of the Alberta Band Association.
ABA Lifetime Membership Award (Alberta Band Association) | In recognition of their lifelong commitment to wind band and music in the Province of Alberta and Canada, the ABA selects a few individuals yearly to be named as Honorary Lifetime Members of the Alberta Band Association.
Alberta Kodály Association Teacher Recognition Award (Alberta Kodaly Association) | Presented annually to an individual in appreciation of their outstanding contribution to music education in the Province of Alberta.
AMEF Recognition Award (Alberta Music Education Foundation) | Presented annually to an individual who has dedicated their life to music education.
ARMTA Service Award (Alberta Registered Music Teachers' Association) | Honours an individual who has volunteered exceptional services for the betterment of ARMTA Provincial members and the association.
Choir Alberta Lifetime Achievement Award (Choir Alberta) | The Choir Alberta Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes individuals with a long-established record of excellence who have had a profound influence on choral music in the Province of Alberta. Recipients are selected by a Board-appointed committee from a list of candidates nominated by Choir Alberta members.
Con Spirito Award (Choir Alberta) | Presented annually in recognition of an individual's spirit, dedication, and commitment to choral music in their local community.
Elkhorn Award Band Director of the Year (Alberta Band Association) | Presented annually by the ABA to an outstanding band director who has exemplified dedication and outstanding commitment and contribution to band music in Alberta. The recipient of this award is nominated and selected by past recipients of the award.
Keith Mann Young Band Director Award (Alberta Band Association) | Presented annually to an outstanding new band director with few than 6 years teaching experience in the province of Alberta. Created to honour the memory of Keith Mann, the recipient will demonstrate Keith's enthusiasm for and dedication to band music.
Outstanding Jazz Educator Award (Alberta Band Association) | Created to celebrate the jazz idiom, this award recognizes outstanding mid to late career jazz educators who encourage and inspire musicians, teachers, and aficionados of any age and demonstrate a true passion for jazz be it as a performer, involvement in jazz organizations, or continued learning and development in the art as a performer or educator.
Patricia Cook Memorial Award (Choir Alberta) | Presented annually in recognition of exemplary service to advocacy in arts education in the Province of Alberta.
Richard S. Eaton Award of Distinction (Choir Alberta) | Presented to an individual in recognition of exemplary service to choral music in the Province of Alberta.
Vondis Miller Legacy Award (Alberta Band Association) | Created in memory of Vondis Miller, the Vondis Miller Legacy Award is a long-service award recognizing and individual who has devoted many years to sharing the joy of making music with young people.
